Story

I decided I wanted to raise money for this charity after losing my mum to blood cancer in January this year. One of my oldest school friends Amanda, said she would do it with me... meaning I couldn’t change my mind!!

My mum was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2012- an incurable but treatable cancer that affects the plasma cells. As a result of the myeloma, her kidney function was severely affected and she received dialysis for the first 12 months of her diagnosis. Fortunately, her kidneys improved enough for her to come off dialysis. However, her options for treatments were limited because her kidney function was still considerably poor. This meant that she was on permanent chemotherapy for 6 years apart from a 16 month remission period. As a result of receiving so much chemo, my Mum was diagnosed with terminal secondary leukaemia in October 2018. She passed away 3 months later.

My mum faced her cancer battle with such positivity and courage. She compared it to being on a roller coaster at Alton Towers, lots of ups and downs as we never knew what news we faced when we saw the haematologist. She always picked herself up and made sure she lived life to the full- always kept up with appearances getting her hair and nails done, girlie shopping trips and many holidays abroad. Cancer didn‘t define her, it was something we learnt to live with.

I’m so grateful for all the top quality care, treatment and support that my Mum received. This particular charity aims to be the UK’s leading charity in supporting efforts to combat the three major types of blood cancer, which affects hundreds of thousands of people.

Both myself and Amanda really appreciate any donations that we receive- and I know how much it would mean to my lovely mum too.

Thankyou ❤️
