What is crowdfunding?

Story
My daughter is going with school/Camps International to Ecuador in 2020 for approx. 4 weeks. Whilst in Ecuador, they will be helping a local community (or 2) with maybe completing a building (school, nursery) and/or with teaching English, writing, maths etc.
