Story

Myself and my dad Billy are running Leeds Half Marathon on the 12th of May and here's why -

My 19 year old wee brother Ryan is Autistic and he attends a group called 'Building Communities Resource Centre' (BCRC) which is the group we are running for.

Ryan is a very naturally shy person but he loves music! You can often find him listening to music on his iPod with his headphones on. When things get tough for him in his world he finds comfort by listening to his music but we recently learnt that its not just about listening to the music, he has a hidden talent and he is actually a great singer! BCRC has a club called 'Rock School' and here you can find a bunch of special, gifted, young adults who meet every fortnight and listen to music, sing together, perform drama and put on amazing shows and concerts! Anyone who knows me can imagine how emotional these concerts can be!

Going to Rock School has really brought Ryan out of his shell and given him the confidence to take his earphones off, and sing in front of people, strangers! I might be biased but he really has an amazing voice and he can sing a mean version of George Ezra 'Shot Gun'! If it weren't for Rock School we would never have known he had that voice in him.

Those of you who will know, having a member of your family with Autism brings lots and lots of emotion. But, nothing brings the emotion of happiness more than watching your wee brother stand up and sing out in front of a crowd with everyone watching him, when you know that inside he wants everyone to stop watching him! He is an amazing young man who has faced a lot of challenges in his life but being surrounded by the people at clubs like BCRC helps make Ryan's life that little bit easier! For that reason I want to give a little something back to them just to say thanks.

So thank you in advance for your donation, any amount will be an amazing amount.
