Story

Good Shout for Girls will help girls in the UK find and flex their voice.

Data shows that girls' confidence drops by 30% between the ages of 8 and 14 (source: Ypulse). It's when you start becoming self-aware, examining your body, and when school politics and cliques really kick in. And the complex forces within social media have only exacerbated this. Endless, filters, harmful forums, trolling cyberbullying can make the internet a scary place.

Against the background of a world that's feeling increasingly hostile to women, we need to protect them in as many ways as we possibly can.

At Good Shout - a learning and development company - we help people to find their voice through public speaking, and often encounter women in their 30s, 40s and 50s who've been socialised to get quieter, from being interrupted or talked over in meetings, or undermined repeatedly at work. We spend a lot of our work undoing that damage, and encouraging women to unlearn the myth that being "seen and not heard" is a virtuous act.

Imagine if we could help women find their voice so young that society has no chance of taking it away. Imagine if we could help girls love their voice and learn to speak up, and amass the public speaking skills that'll give them the very best chance in their career.

At Good Shout, we want every girl in the UK to have a voice, and use it to make the world better.

Our first beta - with 16 year old girls, in April - was a huge success, and now we're fundraising for our next beta projects, including an IRL 6-week course in London bridge.

The money raised will go to:

- Hiring venues for the training

- Paying facilitators and guest speakers

- Producing learning materials

- Providing individual coaching for the girls to ensure we provide the safest and most supportive training possible

Hoping the world gets better for girls isn't enough.

We have to do the work.
