Story

Fundraising on behalf of Mandy Jane Emmett, diagnosed with stage 4 incurable lung cancer in Dec 2018

My Aunty, cousin and I are doing a sponsored walk for my beautiful Mum, we will be completing a 16 mile walk from South Kent Community Church (mums church), Folkestone to Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury on 23rd March. We would like to raise some money to make Mum’s final months more comfortable and ease some of her financial worries and help with her additional needs, equipment etc and maybe even a couple of weekends away.

Mum’s story

As a child my Mum was adopted at 6 weeks old and didn’t always have an easy time with her adopted family and she left home at 16 to make a life for herself, since that day she has always worked harder than anyone else I know. Mum met my Dad and had me and my brother, Dad left when we were little and she received no support from him, as a result and having no family support she became very ill with depression and my brother and I were sadly taken into foster care where we remained in and out of care for 12 years which broke my Mum’s heart. I moved back in with Mum when I was 18 but I have only had 8 short (but wonderful) years with her.

Mum was also very happy to be reunited with her birth family and her birth mother only 20 years ago.

Despite all of this, my Mum, being as strong as she is came through depression and found the church and her faith, she became a committed Christian and with her faith helped people whenever she could.

Mum started a successful care in the community business (working all the hours under the sun) and then married her lovely husband Steve only 6 short months ago. Finally Mum had the life she deserved even though it had taken 57 hard years to get there!

In December 2018 we were hit with the worst news that we could have ever imagined. My sweet lovely kind Mum has grade 4 terminal lung cancer and even with chemo her life expectancy is still very short, she is fighting it with everything she has and I watch her everyday giving everything she can, even though it exhausts her and I know she is doing it for her family because she always puts us first.

I will never be able to make it up to her or thank her for her selflessness, she won’t get to see me or my brother get married or have children and I want more than anything to give her some beautiful memories that we can cherish forever. Sadly her health is deteriorating rapidly and we need to make that happen as quicky as possible.

Mum is struggling financially as she was self employed so can only get very minimal benefits which is why I have decided to reach out to see if anyone can offer any help or donations to help Mum and stop her worrying so much. Thank you so much for reading this and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the emotional and financial support we have received so far.
