    Story

In 2005 my Dad, Rob had an accident which left him completely blind in both eyes. His eyes were severely burnt by an explosion involving 800 degrees liquid aluminium which you could only imagine how painful and life changing this has been for him. Despite the effect this has had on him, and everyone around him, he has been so strong and is a true inspiration to so many people. Since 2005, my dad has had two successful pioneering operations which gave him sight back in one eye, both of which lasted two years. My dad now lives alone with his guide dog of the last four years Finn, who has been a great help and has given my Dad so much more independence back. His eyes are now in such bad condition that there are no more options to this date which he could take to give him back the gift of sight so,
In recent months I have been researching things that may help my Dad live a more comfortable and independent life, which is when I came across ORCAM. This device attaches to the side of glasses and can read from any surface, it also has facial recognition to allow the blind person to store family and friends faces to which ORCAM then notifies the blind person when his or her family and friends are there. Most important to me, I would like my dad to be able to read food labels, news papers, menus and text messages. These are the simple things in life that people with sight often take for granted. I would like my dad to have as much independence as possible because I know it is important to him. I would love to be able to fund this myself but with a small family of my own, I cannot afford the expense. I am so proud of my dad, he has the strength and the heart of a lion and deserves any help towards an easier, more independent life. The current cost of ORCAM is £2400 which includes a days training but the price is due to increase to £2600 in august 2017. We would be greatful for any donations big or small.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this story, it means so much
