After nearly a year of considering who I wanted to run the marathon for, I debated several causes and also debated none given the nerves I have going forward to do this. However, this week, we received the devastating news that my beloved auntie, Lisa, suddenly passed away. The cause is still unknown, but she had faced battles with mental health in the past. Despite everything, she was the most incredible person—selfless, caring, and always putting others before herself. She was at the heart of mine and my cousins childhood, there for holiday, every celebration—always making memories with us.

One of my favorite memories is her picking us up from school, our cousins already piled into the car, with Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen blaring from the speakers. That song will forever be hers and ours.

Lisa leaves behind four children, my cousins, who are now facing the unimaginable task of arranging her funeral and everything beyond. I can’t imagine running this marathon in honor of anyone else. She spent her life giving to others—it’s only right that we now give her the send-off she truly deserves.

She was a devoted mother who treated all of us cousins as her own. Even in difficult times, she still put everyone else first, working in care, supporting and loving the elderly, and spreading kindness wherever she went. She was cherished beyond words, and she will be so, so sorely missed.

At just 51 years old, my darling auntie was taken from us far too soon. My family and I are heartbroken, and any donations will go toward covering funeral costs, with any additional funds being given to a charity of my cousins’ choice for their mum.
