I've raised £989 to Amy’s Theraplay Trike

Amy is a happy, caring, funny, cheeky and stubborn wee girl. She is full of fun and doesn't like anything to slow her down. More than anything, she loves her big sister, Cara, and Amy wants to do everything Cara does, especially riding a bike. Amy has Down's Syndrome which means she has low muscle tone and very flexible joints. She has tried riding a balance bike but doesn't have the strength to hold the bike while moving nor the co-ordination to sit and propel herself while steering. She has tried a push bike with stabilisers but again, she does not have the strength nor stamina to pedal it for more than a few metres. Amy's physio recommended a Theraplay Trike which is specially designed for children with physical mobility difficulties. On her first try of a trike she pedalled off around her school playground without a backward glance and she was delighted! Having this trike would enable Amy to go out to play on her bike with her sister and her friends and she could cycle to and from school. As well as giving her more opportunities to have fun, riding this trike would help to build Amy's strength, muscle tone and balance which would benefit all aspects of her life.
We were delighted when Derek offered to run the Glasgow Half Marathon to raise money to put towards this trike for Amy which will cost £989. I thank you most sincerely for any donation you can make and wish Derek all the best in his training and for the actual race.
