Story

Very shortly after a battle to finally bring a beautiful baby into the world, this little boys daddy was diagnosed with Myeloma. This type of cancer develops from the cells in the bone marrow. It takes over your body wherever there is bone marrow, including the pelvis, spine & rib-cage. It damages bones & affects the production of healthy blood cells, this makes antibodies unable to fight infections. The condition causes dull ache or tenderness of the bones, tiredness, weakness & shortness of breath, repeated infections & kidney problems. This type of cancer cannot be cured but treatment can help in some cases to control the condition for several years. Not only does a great friend of mine have to endure intensive chemotherapy, regular appointments, admission for days, or even weeks at a time due to the affect the smallest infections have on his body, he lives with the symptoms of Myeloma on a daily basis. With the baby now about to celebrate his first birthday, his daddy will be in hospital for a number of weeks undergoing stem cell replacement in hope that it has a positive affect on his condition, however, there no guarantee that this will work.

He takes it in his stride, manages his emotions & just 'gets on with it' the best he can. His constant strength & optimism amazes me. As for his wife, my best friend, she just 'holds it all together.' She continues to be strong for her little family, supportive, work as 'breadwinner' and be mummy to that very special little baby. Rather than for personal gain, they would like to give a little back & to help others with their similar fight.

Watching two of my dearest friends fight together against a battle with cancer has been the toughest emotional hurdle i have experienced, i feel helpless and unable to take it all away.

The Luton & Dunstable Cancer Unit & Oncology Department, like a second home for them, has been an amazing support to this family. For the last year they have done their best to keep his condition stable & make him comfortable at the most difficult times & well enough to get back home with his family. Their hard work & treatments they offer & provide, have helped & continue to help patients on their constant battle against cancer. We wanted to take this opprtunity to give a little back to the unit & hope that it will assist them in continuing the level of care both he & others need throughout their fight.

In aid of this very deserving cause, and one very close to my heart, i will be running the Wimbledon half marathon on sunday 14th October. With working 2 jobs & being a mum of 3, finding time to train is the hardest part, but it makes me even more determined to complete this 13 mile challenge ragardless of how prepared i am!

Please help to make this worthwhile, even the smallest of donation would be hugely appreciated, every little counts! Thankyou!!
