Story
Update > 17 March 2020. Thank you to everyone who generously supported the fundraising page to pay for Andrea's funeral. No further funds are now needed as the target has been met.
Our friend and colleague, Andrea Enisuoh, was well known to many as an activist and community organiser.
From her early days in Manchester representing university students – she was the first black woman on the National Union of Students - to more recent days as a local activist in Hackney.
Andrea was a committed trade unionist and for a time she worked in Hackney for the TSSA. She was also well known locally for her grassroots community organising role with Hackney Unites.
At Hackney CVS Andrea worked in many different guises – as CEN Coordinator , as BEMA (Arts) Coordinator, supporting the Real Opportunities employment programme and as a volunteer in many roles.
As an activist she campaigned against poverty and racism and supported women’s rights, migrants and refugees and LGBTQ+ communities.
Andrea had a love for literature and was founder of the Hackney Lit Fest which bought together poets, spoken word artists and writers.
She is mum to Kofi who is now 13 years old and following his mother’s political footsteps in the Hackney Youth Parliament.
Andrea was a truly wonderful and loved person who committed everything she could to the local community.
In response to Andrea’s passing and following many requests from the local community, we have set up this funeral fund to support the family.
We welcome contributions of any amount towards £6000 for the funeral and related costs.
This page has been set up by Hackney CVS, registered charity number 1069736. We are hosting this fund on behalf of Andrea's family. Any queries to Kristine Wellington > kristine@hcvs.org.uk or Matt Bray > matt@hcvs.org.uk T: 020 7923 1962
