Story
Unlock a New World
The World Scout Jamboree is the largest regular event organised by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement gathering up to 50,000 Scouts from more than 150 countries around the World. It is an educational event to promote peace and mutual understanding among young people from different cultures and to develop leadership and life skills.
Unlike any other youth event, a World Scout Jamboree invites young scouts to surround themselves in the cultures of the world by joining Scouting friends from throughout the world at a single destination for 12 unforgettable days. The Jamboree experience extends beyond their home and beyond the boundaries of the host countries to create a global adventure that will last a lifetime.
Matthew is a 15 year old Explorer Scout, based in Pudsey, Leeds. This is a once in a lifetime experience for all Scouts across the globe and Matthew recently undertook a thorough and challenging selection process before being offered a much sought- after place on the 24th World Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA during summer 2019.
How can you help?
This amazing experience requires Matthew to raise a huge sum of money - £3,800 in total. As well as funding the experience for our Scouts, a percentage of the money will also go towards helping Scouts from less fortunate countries attend, supporting the aim of the jamboree – to ‘Unlock a New World’ for all our young people.
To raise money, Matthew is planning to cycle the full 127 miles of the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, starting in Liverpool on Friday 24th August and ending at Granary Wharf in Leeds on Sunday 26th August 2018. We would be extremely grateful if you could help us, by sponsoring Matthew for this challenge.
The donations will go directly to Matthew and he will be able to use them to help with his costs to attend the Jamboree.
