    Story

Together with my work colleagues, I am doing my first 10 km run this weekend. I know it is not a lot of running, but with a bit of training now, I am challenging myself to do it in under one hour.
I thought it's a great opportunity to support and raise money for causes I believe in so here I am!
I believe that we can challenge and change the things around us and the first step is to start with ourselves and our daily routine. And something we can all have a say about is food!
My plan is to try and fundraise money for four great initiatives that challenge food issues from different angles and scales. The four heroes for this campaign are FareShare, Feedback, Olio and Slow Food.
Together they tackle food poverty, food waste, food diversity and its heritage and environmental and social welfare implications related to the food industries from crops to shelves.
They mainly do this though education, policy making, hands on work by gleaning fields or taking surplus food from supermarkets and distributing to local charities/food banks and facilitating platforms for 1:1 interactions of neighbours to exchange unwanted food items that would otherwise go to waste.
OLIO is a free app that connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away.
Through Olio 85,303 Meals were saved from going to waste. OLIO can help create a world in which nothing of value goes to waste, and every single person has enough to eat – without destroying our planet in the process.
I never ran a fundraising action before and I know it's a rather late start, but I am confident we can achieve the target! The plan is to support these four movements with £100 each and any donation is welcomed!
