Story

We have an ongoing project to restore our local graveyard at St Just, West Cornwall, TR19. As we have cleared the brambles and ivy we have found the remains of vases which were used to indicate the burial places of stillborn babies or babies who only lived for a few days and who have no name – including my Mum’s sister. The vast majority of stillborn babies buried here have no grave markers.
Today, there is much more awareness of the traumatic effect on the mother and father of still born and neonatal death - https://www.sands.org.uk/ and the volunteers who are working on the graveyard project are keen that the area where stillborn babies were buried – is acknowledged by a slate memorial plaque affixed to a granite base. We wish to hold a short dedication ceremony and to promote the role of SANDS. The cost of the purchase , engraving and painting of the slate memorial and the granite will cost just over £500 and the dedication would read:
THE UNNAMED BABIES
We stand here in a special place to remember
All babies who died too soon;
We had you not for long, yet love you still
This is plaque is dedicated to the memory of those
Unnamed babies of St Just who are buried here
May they Rest in Peace
