Story

The owl experience rescue sanctuary is in Haughton, Staffordshire and has been open for 13 years. They rescue, rehabilitate and care for Owls, Hawks, Falcons, and other birds of prey, both native and non-native.

From hand rearing birds whose parents have been killed, taking on surrendered birds, to caring for abused birds who can never be released, they never refuse a call for help and dedicate their time to these magnificent animals alongside education for all.

There are currently 55 residents in the sanctuary, but hundreds have passed through the doors since opening.

The sanctuary has always managed to remain open through the kindness of supporters and visitors to the sanctuary alongside continual fundraising efforts; however, the toll of the last 3 years has driven the sanctuary to face potential closure and a very uncertain future for its residents.

Funds have been totally depleted, from recovery after flooding and storm damage, restrictions due to avian flu, general maintenance of the sanctuary, vet and food bills and reduced visitors due to Covid and now the poor weather so far this year, the concern is real that they will not be able to remain open for much longer.

Any support that can be given no matter how small will go directly to the support of these birds and any new calls for help, which will undoubtedly come as we move into nesting season.

The passion this team has to care and support these beautiful birds knows no bounds and to be unable to carry on would be devastating to them all; as well as the birds. It is sanctuaries like this one that ensure we can still see native birds of prey in Great Britain thriving and fighting back from being so at risk.

Please, please help to keep the doors open to this small but amazing sanctuary.
