I suffered a Brain Haemorrhage on the 21/22 October 2003 while at work (Nights).
Its 13 years since things changed one way or another in my life. Lost the use of my right side, but I just thought I had over done it and my body was having a rest. After 2 weeks in Intensive Care, I was wheeled to the Stroke ward in Northampton Hospital. It was then that I realised I had suffered a Stroke. I then realised that is why a lot of people had visited me, I had been lucky and I had survived. I battled to get out of Hospital, as I always thought, some one else may need the bed who was worse than me. I fought the Dr's and against their wishes, of wanting to keep me in for a minimum of 6 months, I escaped (not literally!) after on the Friday, the day before the World Rugby Final 2003, England V Australia. This meant such a lot to me, as I used to play Rugby, more enthusiasm than skill, I must add! ha ha. But after being cared for by my Parents, I soon stopped smashing, breaking things, walking into doors, thus things were classed as Andy tested. I health visitor who came to help me for a few moths, directed me to Different Strokes Charity. I became a Volunteer and did Maternity cover for a lovely lady. I would answer the phone, chat and counsel Stroke Survivors or just answer simple questions. But this helped me so much, the thought of helping others. Years later, I now visit and get involved with Different Strokes Northampton Group. The fund I want to raise, is to be used by the group to help with Exercise classes, Talks, Days out and events. Its a lovely group and all the Stroke Survivors are different, as all Strokes are different. Everyone helps in anyway that they can, may it be a little bit, or throw themselves in, to help all. With a mixture of Carers, volunteers and Stroke Survivor we all try to make a difference nd smile. Sponsor me, I will cycle around Pitsford Reservoir as much as I can on 22 November 2016.
