Story

After being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2018, Roland Proudlock (Our Chairman) along with his family, were devastated and struggled to take the news in. After two weeks, in desperation, he contacted a friend who he knew had had prostate cancer and treatment. That afternoon, he kindly spoke to Roland for as long as he needed, after which he felt much more positive. He told me that as I’d been caught ‘early’ I could die with Prostate Cancer but not of it. That was such a powerful thing to hear. His ‘buddy’ on that day was Keiran McGovern and Roland is delighted to say, he is now part of our group.

Another founder member and Prostate Cancer survivor, Andrew Edgar (Our Treasurer) went into total denial when his father sadly passed away with Prostate Cancer, not appreciating the increased risk between father and son. In May 2018 he underwent robotically assisted Prostate Cancer surgery and is glad to say was given the ALL-CLEAR in July the same year. There are always potential side effects of any Prostate Cancer treatment – every man is different, and he would urge you not to Google the symptoms but visit your Doctor to get the best information to suit your condition. The advances in surgery and medication are helping to reduce these issues but you must start with yourself, anything that is, or does not feel right, means that your body is not doing what it should, when it should, so don’t leave it till it’s too late, your family need you to be there for them, you don’t want your family to have to be there for you!
