Story
From the 4th to the 11th of August 2018, myself and four other students from The University of Edinburgh are travelling to Liming Village, Yunnan Province in China to work with Bridge to China (Wu Zhi Qiao) Charitable Foundation. With the help of students from both mainland China and Hong Kong, we will construct two footbridges in the underprivileged Liming Village.
Liming Village is distributed throughout a mountainous region, with low population density due to wide-spread fields. Families make the equivalent of £3000-£4000 every year from selling crops in markets. Fast flowing rivers make the journey to market treacherous, made even more so by the dangerous ways in which villagers are forced to cross. Bridge to China intends on building two footbridges in this village to help villagers access other parts of the village and to encourage a community spirit.
The charity asks for a small donation of RMB 800, or £91, and in exchange they and the community house and feed us for the duration of our stay. I am asking my friends and family to help me raise this, by contributing something small, knowing that the money is going to a good cause on the other side of the world.
