Story

I visited the Village of Sinchu Warriu, very recently. Me and my group were doing a capoeira interchange with the only capoeira group from Gambia. Besides doing capoeira there, listening about the life in the village and their ways, learning how to transplant trees and the nature over there we were also were warmly received by Baseedy Saidy, the village teacher that kindly received us in his family compound and shared their food with us. While there he also told us the story of the school - that him and his family started despite all the difficulties and against all odds, I was first so surprised to find a school in the middle of the compound and impressed with the love I felt on the wall paintings and all the improvisation that went into making it work, his words on how he was doing all of this filled me with admiration and brought tears to my eyes. I felt the challenges this community faced first hand, the lack of support from government and I was thoroughly moved by his single effort and persistence into striving for a better future for this children. Even if I never helped a cause before due to my lack of trust on the charity institutions that mediate popular causes, I trusted this humble teacher straight away and decided right there and then to help something small but achievable. For the first time in my life I realised the power that a few pounds could have in the future of children and that maybe changing the world is not that hard, we just have to do it within our range, one children at the time. In here the focus goes to changing the lives of the children in this village.
