Story

Raising funds to build shelter for 15 primary school orphans in the slums of Kampala, Uganda where mum and I volunteered this summer.

Hi my name is Zoe. This summer for a month, after I sat my GCSE's, my mum and I volunteered in Uganda. We cared for children; playing games, sports, music, arts and craft and teaching children subjects such as English and maths who live in extreme poverty. The school is severely under-resourced without basic requirements of electricity, clean water, books and proper shelter.

Many of the children have lost one or both of their parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Due to immense poverty and unimaginable living conditions 1.4 million people in Uganda are sadly living with HIV/AIDS. Projects are helping raise awareness and council those already diagnosed. Also by giving medication to help prevent others suffering.

Money donated here will go towards building a shelter for the orphans, a new uniform, fresh water well or tap for the community within the slums and essential items for their home once built and much more. Also medication towards the HIV/AIDS project.

So far we painted the 6 classrooms and added educational artwork on the walls. Painted the outside of the school and added Disney characters. Cleared the playground and bought toys and finally implemented a hygiene programme for the whole community which is starting to make a difference and reducing hospital bills.

We have organised 2 fundraising events - one in Bristol and London as we need to support these children as soon as possible as one of the orphans has died since our return to the UK.

Your donation would be greatly appreciated and it would make a massive difference to the lives of the children.

Thank you
