Story
A tsunami struck without warning on the Indonesia's two most-populous islands, killing at least 222 people, injuring hundreds, and destroying numerous homes and buildings. This fund will provide relief to people impacted by the tsunami in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine, in addition to longer-term recovery assistance to help residents. All donations to this fund will exclusively support disaster relief and recovery efforts in Indonesia.
The tsunami was triggered by a volcano and struck the Sunda Strait with no warning on December 23, 2018, causing widespread damage to buildings and property. Local nonprofit partners are responding to survivors' immediate needs and have asked us to help fund their relief and recovery efforts.
All donations to this fund will support recovery and relief efforts for areas in Indonesia affected by the tsunami. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations responding to this disaster.
By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.
