I've raised £500 to help buy some computer equipment for kids with autism and Asperger syndrome at Allerton High school in Leeds.

Anyone that knows me knows that I have always wanted to do a triathlon, however, I have always followed up with the caveat of “when I’m fit enough!”. Then last year, having been overweight most of my adult life, I finally managed to lose 3 and a 1/2 stone through eating better and exercising or to put it more simply, eating less and moving more. So now at the age of 48 I am finally “fit enough” to enter a triathlon and not wanting to do things by halves I have entered the Leeds Triathlon and will be doing the full standard distance rather than the sprint as I wanted to motivate and challenge myself. So I will be swimming 1500m in open water, then cycling 40km and finishing with a 10km run. Now being completely honest my main motivation over the last 18 months has always been to lose weight for myself and to inspire and hopefully motivate the people around me to do the same. However, when my wife, who works as a teaching assistant working with kids with autism explained how little computer equipment they had I thought that would be an excellent cause to raise some money for. They do a great job there in helping the kids work towards their exams in the mainstream school and the other week took them all to the Apple store in Leeds where they learned some coding. They all really enjoyed this but unfortunately are not able to follow this up at school currently, so if I can raise a few quid to help them do this then that will be fantastic!
