Story

Anyone who knows us well knows how much Mrs C (Julie) and Rob mean to our family. Their daughter Laura and her husband Chris lost their two day old daughter to Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy in February, leaving family and friends devastated. I have run the GNR for a number of years, but never ran for a charity. This year I felt compelled to help in some small way and so I am running to raise money for the JCUH neonatal unit in Memory of Isabella Clark.

I asked Laura for a few words and feel she captures entirely why I am asking for your help for this great cause .........

In the U.K, at least 15 babies die per day, stillborn or within the first four weeks of their lives. In 2015, 1652 babies died, that is 3304 mothers and father's lives shattered.

But that number is reducing because of advances in clinical knowledge and care!

My daughter at 38 weeks and 5 days should have been stillborn because of a cord compression accident which she suffered in utero, causing catosphrophic brain damage and multiple organ failure. Although we did not know this until after she was born.

On the 8th Feb 2017, I went into labour and as expected from any mother to be, I was both nervous and excited. After a quick labour, Isabella's heart rate was lost during delivery. She was without a heart beat for 10 minutes and a further 13 minutes whilst the James cook neonatal carried out resuscitation.

The neonatal intensive care team, provided the most excellent care to Isabella, treating her as if she was their own daughter. Without the skill of the Professors, Doctors and Specialist Nurses we would not have had 2 days of precious memories together, that they were able to give us. If any of my future babies were in the care of the James cook team, I would know that they were in the best hands.

Thank you in advance you wonderful people xxxxxxxxxx Forever grateful, the Clarks, Chesters and Reeves xxxxxxxxxxxxx
