Story

Forever remember the NHS workers who have died during the Covid-19 pandemic as - Angels of the Nation.

The NHS has lost 181 courageous souls in their frontline efforts to overcome the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. No words can ever bring them back but as a country we can come together to formally honour and forever remember them as - Angels of the Nation. This appeal is asking for your support to make at least 181 angels for the families who have lost their loved one and to deliver them before Christmas.

“We owe so much to the courage and dedication of our NHS staff. Working every day, they are risking their lives to save ours. For the families and friends who have lost an NHS worker, nothing can replace their loss but these angel statues are a poignant symbol of our gratitude. We will never forget.” - Ellie Orton, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together

The first angel was presented to a family on 22nd September and as the appeal progresses and your support grows, more angels have and will continue to be gifted until we reach our target.

This beautiful angel sculpture was designed by artist Lucianne Lassalle. It is made of white marble resin, hand cast and hand finished in the UK. It stands 12 inches (32cm) tall and weighs 850g. It costs up to £140 to make and deliver each angel to a family.

This appeal was created by father and son, Paul & James Gilley, who believe this gift can provide some comfort to these families and honour the memory of their loved ones.

All funds raised go to the creation of the angels and any surplus will be donated to the NHS Charities Together.

Lest we forget our Angels of the Nation. Thank you for your support.

The first angel has been gifted in memory of Jenny Esson, to her family. "One line in a song we love to sing in the Heart and Soul community is ‘I believe in angels, something good in everything I see.’ Jenny believed this, and she knew that each of us is called to be the very best, most beautiful version of ourselves that we can be. This angel reminds us of that message - that we are loved and worthy of being loved, and to be the very best that we can be, for the sake of humankind, all creatures, and nature." Revd John Nicholson, Chaplain CPFT
