Story

Dear Friends ! i am a social care worker and i work in a lovely care home called Edward Thompson/Taing House . It's a wonderful place filled with wonderful people and we, as care workers, try to do as much as we can to make people's lives as happy as they can be! Its no been as easy lately during lockdown so it got me thinking about what things could be done to make life better...

For me, i love nothing more than a challenge .. i'd already spoke to my duty manager a few months ago about wanting to raise money to purchase something special for our home. Id previously booked a trek to hike Mont-Blanc Chamonix in Switzerland but unfortunately like so many other trips this year it had to be cancelled :(

My Plan B is that i'm going to run a solo marathon in Shetland on Saturday the 15th of August!!! Ive never run a marathon before so will be needing to do plenty training over the next 12 weeks. Ill be running from Sumburgh lighthouse to Lerwick and would love to get as much support from the community as i can. The money raised will go towards buying this absolutely amazing magic table for the residents in our care home. Its the most exciting thing i have ever seen it really is !! So much stuff it can do and it has been proven to bring so much joy for people with dementia making their lives open up again !! Please read below and click the link for more information on the magic table.

I would love to enhance peoples lives by raising money to be able to purchase this table!! I am aiming for £10,000 to cover cost and help so many people with dementia.

Tovertafel Original?

Are you looking for a fun way to stimulate people with dementia to move more and interact socially? The Tovertafel Original was developed for and with people in the moderate to severe stages of dementia. The interactive games break through apathy by stimulating both physical and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction. Moreover, the Tovertafel creates treasured moments with family members and carers. These games are all about enjoyment and wonder.

The Tovertafel is a little box that can be mounted on the ceiling, for instance, above the dining room table of a care institute. Inside the box is a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, speaker, and processor that work together to project the games onto the table. Because the colourful objects respond to hand and arm movements, residents get to play with the light itself.
