Story
Over 70% of urban dwellers in Ghana lack access to decent shelter. Out of this figure, over 30% live in shacks, unfit to hold even animals in certain jurisdictions around the world. More than 60% of the affected bracket are the youth within the age bracket of 15 and 35 years. These are the most vulnerable of the society that eventually constitute the greatest percentage of delinquents, lost hopes and social misfits.
Of those that are within the working class and employed by government, majority have such poor incomes, that leaves them no room for comfort, except to resort to corrupt practices. The large informal private sector dependent largely on the former are even worse off.
This document presents a unique solution in 3 categories ranging from temporal to permanent shelters, which if adopted and applied holistically can impact the quality of life of the millions that fall within this category.
The approach is to reuse existing solutions preserved until now for the privileged and affluent:
Dormitories for younger members of the youth bracket
Hostels for older members of the youth
Apartments for the working class apportioned by income levels.
