    Story

My husband Stuart was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 20 years ago, a year after we met. I still remember the devestation - it was the worst day of our lives.
We found a way to live with the MS and the limitations it gave Stu. He changed his career to one less physical, we got married and had two lovely children, Amy (12) and Jessica (9). Unfortunately over the last couple of years the MS has progressed reducing his mobility drastically and also presenting trigeminal neuralgia, severe pain in the nerves of his face. The simple things you and I do and take for granted every day are such a huge effort for Stu. He has also recently had to take ill health retirement taking away his independence.
Then finally some hope - a new treatment entered the MS world called HSCT which involves giving the patient doses of chemotherapy and injections to encourage the stem cells to move from the bone marrow to the blood and are then removed. More chemotherapy is given to wipe out the immune system and the stem cells are planted back into the body to regrow the immune system.
Although NHS trials have begun in the UK for this treatment Stu is not eligible due to his progressive form of the disease and having being diagnosed over 12 years ago. A friend of ours underwent HSCT at a clinic in Mexico earlier this year with very successful results. The treatment has shown to be effective in 85% of cases making the decision a ‘no brainer’ for us. So we have decided to make the journey to Mexico.
I am asking you to help me reach the £50,000 target to give my wonderful husband the best chance of getting his life back, giving us all hope of a brighter future and finally stopping this dreadful disease in its tracks!
We would love as many people as possible to help support us - thank you.

Stuart’s journey can be followed on the Facebook page where you can also find out more about the treatment and our personal story.
