Help Anna and Helen buy donations to take to refugees in Calais with Help Refugees!

In May, I had the great privilege of helping out backstage at the Help Refugees fundraiser #ComicsForCalais, organised by the Guilty Feminist podcast. I knew of Help Refugees but very honestly had no idea of the scale of the work they did. I also naively didn't realise that refugees continue to live in terrible conditions in Calais and across the world, often without any shelter at all. The stories I heard at the fundraiser and the people I talked to haven't left my mind since, and I've been talking about it to anyone who will listen.

What has really stayed with me are the stories of the French CRS regularly taking away the refugees' tents - these tents are their only shelter and the only place they have to keep their belongings safe. Hundreds and hundreds of refugees (including children) need these tents to protect them from the elements.

My friend Helen and I are going to Calais for 5 days in July to volunteer with Help Refugees. We will be paying for our travel, accommodation and food ourselves. 100% of funds raised from this Just Giving page will be used to pay for urgently needed items for the refugees and take them with us to Calais. Help Refugees releases a monthly list of most needed items, so we will refer to July’s list and buy whatever is most needed for that month. Anything we can’t carry with us, we will order online and get delivered to Calais. But the goal is to take as much possible with us!
