Having just received news that my brother, Richard Moore, has been forced into retirement, I appeal to the Rugby League Community for support.
At 15 years of age, he signed professional terms with his home-town club Keighley Cougars. Since then he has made more than 350 appearances for 10 clubs across Super League, the Championship and League One.
Crohn’s disease didn’t force him off the park, such was his desire to continue making his living from the sport he loved.
Those in our game who knew him, talk of his willingness to offer advice to younger teammates, and his warm, open nature when chatting with fans. He was a true professional in every sense of the word.
Richard’s injury could not have come at worse time. A head injury sustained during the first game of a two-year contract has meant that financial obligations will now be difficult to meet. His current club Hunslet have been fantastic, but notwithstanding their generosity, the shortfall will pose a significant challenge for Richard and his family.
Please spare what you can. I have ultimate faith in the Rugby League family will come together, as they always do, when adversity strikes. For this reason, I proceed with confidence in making this appeal.
Yours in Rugby,
Chris Clough.
