Story
Who Am I
Hello everyone !! My name is Anna. I am currently a PhD candidate at Myerscough College in Agriculture and Countryside. I have previously gained a degree at Myerscough, have worked in (run around) the catering department for many years. I am also the granddaughter of Frank Peregrine, former principal of Myerscough and who is widely considered to be one of the most important people in their history . Therefore Myerscough is close to my heart and so are all of the people that study and work there.
Anyone who knows me will know that I love crazy running and I run whenever or wherever I get the chance, be that on roads, across fields, falling over stiles or just around the catering department or office. (I used to run around the garage when it was just too wet)
What Am I Raising Money For
It can be a difficult time at college and university, being away from home and among new people and strange surroundings. It is understandable a helping hand may be needed to allow someone to achieve their potential. Myerscough have certainly helped me on my path and I would not be studying for my PhD without help I had received along the way.
I am raising money for 2 charities who have have been and still are a helping hand to Myerscough Students and many other vulnerable young people.
Papyrus who are based in Warrington and carry out incredible work on preventing suicide for young people. https://www.papyrus-uk.org/ Charity number 1070896. They believe many young suicides can be prevented.
Breathe in Preston offer well-being and therapeutic care for eating disorders. They believe everyone can have access to the appropriate care and every recovery is possible. http://www.breathetherapies.co.uk/ Part of S.E.E.D. (Supporting & Education in Eating Disorders Lancashire) Charity number 1144313.
What Am I Doing
Simply put, I am lucky enough to be running the Marathon des Sables, often described as the "Toughest Footrace in the World"!
How tough can it be I hear you say, well a Half Marathon is 13.1 Miles long and a Full Marathon is 26.2 Miles.
The Marathon des Sables is 250 km over 6 days. It is run in the Sahara desert in temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius, with a limited water supply and carrying your own food, cooking equipment and sleeping bag in a rucksack. You run over sand dunes, dry river beds and mountain ranges and all against the clock.

If you would like more information about the Marathon des Sables then please visit their website at https://marathondessables.co.uk/
or watch this documentary about James Cracknell (Olympic Rowing Gold Medalist) completing the race https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0Qak8e4vYA
Thank you in advance for any support or donations and look out for my husband Ben's updates leading up to and during the race.
Thank You
Anna
