Story
The selected family – Danuta, (78yo), Swidnica, Poland:
Danuta (78yo) is a retired nurse who lives on her own after her husband passed away. Danuta, despite the everyday challenges she faces - among other things, heart and circulatory conditions and serious rheumatism issues – always tries to look on the bright side of life and stay positive!
Danuta’s very small pension pot does not cover the basic cost of living; therefore, she leads a very modest lifestyle, but she treasures reading books which she enjoys so dearly despite her age-related vision problems.
Danuta’s close relatives live far away, hence, she cannot rely on their support, but she tries as much as she can to stay resilient in challenging circumstances. To feel better and solve problems life throws at her, books help Danuta in some way to keep her mind sharper, improve her memory and increase her happiness, allowing her to dive into an exciting new world full of interesting characters. This definitely helps her to escape lonely days.
For the Christmas season, Danuta was very much hoping to get a cooker to replace her broken and worn-out one, a kettle and warm blankets. Additionally, Danuta would be grateful to receive cleaning products, food items and bed linen - items which are always useful to have in the household.
Lastly, Danuta would be delighted to receive a special gift, namely a portable audiobook player as due to her deteriorating eyesight, she finds it difficult to read her favourite books.
