Story

I have been offered an opportunity to travel to Cape Town in February 2019 as part of the Vibrant Parks Project. This project works with disadvantaged children and young adults in their home city, to create a usable and safe park space for them to play. The trip is organised by Hype, a not for profit organisation who support young people to reach their potential, improve their self worth and provide them with a sense of responsibility and ownership of their lives and environment. In working together with children and young people in South Africa, in a neighbourhood where there are limited opportunities for young people, I hope to be part of a team who improve community cohesion and change the quality of life for people less fortunate than myself. This could be achieved by clearing an area of parkland to allow children to play football safely, improving the health and wellbeing of local people and encouraging friendships. I hope to use the experience that I gain in Cape Town to work on similar projects in my local area. Thank you for your support.
