Story

London Marathon 2022

My name is Anna Thapa. Last year very spontaneously, after watching the London Marathon on tv I decided to submit an application to run the marathon. To be honest I didn’t think I would get in, as they say getting into a non charity place in the London Marathon is as likely as winning the lottery! I mean winning the lottery would have been nice but of course here I am, running 2022 London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October instead.

Even though, I don’t need to raise money to run this amazing event as I was one of the very lucky applicants to be accepted in the official open ballot, I have decided to run for an independent charity “Chance for Nepal” run by lovely Barbara.

My contact with Barbara was fate and it was meant to be. My lovely mother works at the local curry house in Kingsbridge. Barbara and her husband was in the area for holiday, as Barbara mentioned to me that she is always preaching her amazing work as she should and came to speaking to one of the staff about Nepal, where they told her they have a Nepalese staff who works there, which my mother and Barbara started conversation how I have got a place at the London marathon and have looking for a charity to represent and raise money for. And of course rest is history.

Nepal is where I was born and fortunate enough to be raised here in the UK, especially in the most beautiful part of Devon- Kingsbridge since the age of 7. I am forever grateful to call Kingsbridge my home, however some people of Nepal didn’t have the opportunity like I did and I am forever grateful for my upbringing. I have had the privilege of the East & the West influences and experiences in my life has shaped me to be the person I am today.

Sports has always been part of my life. I tired every sports that was on offer, netball, hockey, rounders, swimming, basketball, You name it, I wouldn’t say no! Since leaving school, I lost touch with sports and found it hard to keep my fitness level continual until lockdown 2020. I kicked started my fitness journey with home works outs and started working out 5/6 times a week with the odd x1 running a week. At the end of 2020, I had lost 2 stone in total and was back being fit as I was when I was 18. I felt really good and needed my next challenge in life and Voilà London Marathon 2022.

I have never ran any Marathon full or half and the only running event I had done was when I was in primary school where I had entered a cross country tournament but apart from that just a casual 5k here and then to add to my fitness programme. But I was ready for this challenge to run 26.2 miles.

As part of my Marathon training I have recently completed the Plymouth Half Marathon and I absolutely loved it. I can only imagine London will be 100 times enhanced with atmosphere and I’m very much looking forward to it.
