I've raised £4220 to go on an expedition to Ecuador to help local communities. I'll be building houses and schools and planting trees to combat deforestation.

Story

In 2020, I am going to Ecuador in South America. Whilst I’m there I will be living with and helping out in the local community. To help with problems such as the malnutrition of the soil in the highlands, we will be building greenhouses for families to grow their own vegetables. Seed greenhouses will also be built for the children, so that they can learn about nutrition and watch the plants as they grow. In other local the homes we’ll be putting in toilet to improve the health and hygiene for all the people. I’ll be going to visit schools and learning all about the culture and how they live as well as building and redoing parts of their school, including the kitchen and dining rooms.

To help protect the wild life that is constantly threatened by deforestation, I will be replanting new trees that will act as a home and food for endangered species like the orangutan. For other animals such as elephants, zebras and giraffes, we’ll be digging watering holes for sources of water and a place to cool off. We will also be helping protect the environment down by the ocean as well as in the rainforest. By picking up litter and recycling the majority into eco-friendly building material, e.g. plastic bottles, it will reduce the number of animals that are harmed and killed by it every day.
