Story

PPROM is the acronym for Preterm Prelabour Rupture Of Membranes.

This is otherwise known as when the waters break prior to 37 weeks during pregnancy.

These waters, known as the amniotic fluid, protect your baby from injury. It also helps in preventing infection being passed from mother to baby. As soon as the waters break the risks of infection to both mother and baby are high. Therefore good management of care at this stage is key to treating this condition successfully.

We believe that more needs to be done to help prevent PPROM. This ultimately lies in education.

Women need to be aware of the signs to look for; to recognise potential infection and gain an understanding of the changes the body undergoes.

On the 25th of July 2018 my waters broke at just 20 weeks 4days gestation. The next day my 20 week scan confirmed I had lost all my amniotic fluid. I went into labour on Sunday the 29th July We made it to 21 weeks and 1 day. Despite the odds against Darcey after being told she would be born dead, she was born at 20.59pm with a strong heartbeat. We had our Darcey Victoria Crane baptized.

Our beautiful baby girl sadly passed away in our arms on 30th July at 00.25 am after 3hours 26minutes of being on this earth.
