Story
On Sunday 22nd of October 2023 I will be running the Edinburgh Woman's 10K!
Those of you who know me will know I am most definitely not a runner and detest any form of exercise but this year, after the loss of an amazing work colleague, I decided I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone. Running a 10k seemed perfect since Mr Sleigh was an avid runner and organised the Monifieth 10k through the school.
Raising money for charity was always going to help motivate me and so I have chosen the following:
Movember - Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
Balhousie St Ronans Residents Comfort Fund - both my grandparents moved into St Ronans during Covid and my Wee Granny is currently still a resident. They have an absolutely fantastic bunch of staff who look after her (and of course my Grandad when he was still with us) amazingly. The comfort fund allows them to take the residents out on day trips (e.g. lunch in The Fort, the cinema, V&A, open top bus tours), provide them with treats etc. Its great to see the residents happy and enjoying life!
JustGiving won't allow me to give to 2 charities from the 1 page and so after the 10k I will split any funds evenly between the 2 charities!
Thank you to all who have supported me in my training so far! It really means a lot. Special thanks to my awesome friend Gail Miller who, when I asked if she could give me advice on training, went one better and signed up to run by my side on the day to keep me going! What a gem!
If you want a laugh find me on Strava to follow my attempts at runs with some quirky commentary - though I have stopped naming some runs "WTF" now I'm a "professional runner"....ha!
Granny & SleighDawg - this is for you! 💜
