    Story

The Tottenham Refugee Alliance is a community group of volunteers who have approval from the Home Office to support and welcome a refugee family to settle permanently in the London Borough of Haringey under the Community Sponsorship Scheme. (If you are interested in Community Sponsorship in your area, please see here...https://resetuk.org/about/what-is-community-sponsorship.)

We are in the process of finding and furnishing a home for them to rent, and when they arrive, we will assist them in all aspects of moving towards living independently in Britain - learning English language, budgeting and financial planning, schooling for children, negotiating medical access, and finding their feet in our community.

Community Sponsorship has successfully brought many refugee families to live here and we have been moved to try to help those who have found themselves fleeing from war, conflict and poverty. We want to bring our community together to welcome a family into our area of London and help them secure a safe future.

Arrived in Santiago de Compostela late morning, 111 kms from my starting point in Sarria. I thought a lot along the way of the many refugees walking and journeying in hope from the horrors of war, prejudice and poverty in places and under circumstances so much harsher than this journey through a beautiful landscape and alongside others sharing the experience. To help bring one family to safety has been my aim. Thanks to all who have shared thst with me.

Like many I have been dismayed to see the plight of people fleeing war, political repression and insecurity. I am walking 100 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain from 15-22 May to raise funds for the work of the Tottenham Refugee Alliance.
