Story

Ansteydam 2018

On the 6th September our team of 5 riders (Left to right - John, Gary, Steve, Morgan and Pete) will optimistically set off from Anstey, Leicester hoping to arrive in Amsterdam 3 days and approximately 200 miles later.

As a group of friends and family we have half the gear and a vague idea. Some of us have cycled before and others have barely ridden a bike since school (a long time ago). We are making all of the textbook mistakes; falling over because we’ve forgotten our feet are attached to the bike – check, see-through shorts – check. There is no doubt the route will be enjoyable, rewarding and certainly challenging for us all.

As the weeks have passed by this event has become much more than just a social ride. After the tragic loss of Steve’s daughter Phoebe, (John and Gary’s granddaughter) in May 2017, the planning, preparation and training has come to be a meaningful and positive focus for us all. Phoebe will be with us for each and every turn of the pedals.

If you would like to support us on our journey we will be raising money for the Neonatal Unit and the Children’s Intensive Care Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary, both of which played a significant role during Phoebe’s precious 9 months.
