Story
5 Months ago Our brother leon evans was an everyday happy man, he enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face, He was the life and soul of the party always the loud one enjoying time with his friends and family,
About a year or so ago he got a condition called plantar fasciitis this is a condition which causes you alot of pain in your feet, He went to the doctors and they gave him pain killers, the pain killers were not working, so the doctors decided to give him cortisone injections, The problem is he had 4 in the course of a year, the side effects of this was a few things, first he couldnt sleep he was feeling anxious and depressed, he went to the doctors and they then decided to give him, mirtazapine which is an anti depressant, this mixed with the cortisone did not have a fantastic effect and still did not help with the pain, the stress and the sleepless nights was having an effect on him overall and he was still suffering from the pain of his feet and now his back, Another trip to the doctors resulted in them palming him off again but this time with a pain killer called Tramadol
Now Tramadol — which also comes under brand names including Zydol and Zamadol — is a synthetic opioid drug, similar to natural opioids derived from poppy seeds, such as morphine. It’s prescribed to prevent or treat moderate to severe pain after surgery, toothache or long-term pain conditions including back pain, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. Tramadol is regarded by many doctors as a weaker opioid. But in fact it has the same risks of overdose as with morphine.
on top of all this his Dog dies and 2 weeks later our grandma passed away, leon took this very badly and started to get more and more depressed and withdrawn.
Leon started to hallucinate and was complaining of hearing voices in his head. These voices were just calling his name when he was asleep he would get up and look for the person who was shouting his name, he then started to feel really paranoid thinking people were coming to harm him, We took leon to the doctors and explained what was happening they told us to come back to see someone on the monday, That night was the first time leon tried to take his own life he stabbed himself in the neck 4 times and took 30 co-codamol, my mum found my brother and called an ambulance, once at the hosipital my brother was treated luckily enough the neck wounds were not deep and they used a liquid to flush the co codamol from his system and also done blood tests,
The blood tests showed all the medication the doctors had given him and they later told us this was the reason for all the bad thoughts and suicide attemps, They were still reluctant to section him even though he was crying for help, with much persuassion the admitted him to the mental ward for 28 days in newham general this was on the sunday so finally he is going to get help, on the monday they transfered him to Goodmayes and after an assessment they released him on the Tuesday saying that now he had been drained of the medications in his system he should be fine, with a new set of medications he was given a tablet to take once a day which a nurse would come and give him, and have a chat with him, the first week he seemed to be getting back to his normal self but this changed quickly the voices came back and the paranoia, in the following 6 weeks he tried to take his life 4 more times of which he had gone to the doctors the mental health team for help, i truley believe my brother gave up because he could t get rid of these voices he didnt want to burden my mum and vicki and he truley believed it was better for him and them that he was gone,
To say that my family is distraught would be an understatement and we want to take this further as we beleive Leon was failed by the NHS failed by the system, failed by the dictors that kept giving him medication that resulted in him getting into this state,
we will never get him back but we want people know what happened and why,
Any donation will help my family with the costs but also to pay a solicitor to fight our case as this is not going to be an easy battle but we will fight it.
There is no particular amout as anything will help,
Thank you for listening and godbless
RIP Leon Evans you will always be missed
