Story

Both in the UK and around the world, human trafficking education presents a critical opportunity to address human rights and safeguarding for a generation of new doctors, school children and to businesses.

Doctors and other health care professionals may encounter victims of human trafficking/modern day slavery more often than they realise. Doctors are in a unique position to help a victim.

85% of victims have had contact with a health care worker (doctors, dentists, primary care) while being trafficked; 80% in the first year. A survey of 1000 doctors showed that fewer than 10% of them ever suspected they had been in contact with a victim of slavery. Only 20% of these said they would know what to do if they encountered a victim. 87% of NHS professionals reported a lack of knowledge in identifying trafficked people, and 78% reported insufficient training limiting their ability to assist such individuals. Similar trends are observed across the world.Medical education on trafficking in the UK and other countries is often absent. To produce future clinicians who are competent and capable, there is a need for education on trafficking and research to be put into the curriculum. Both in the UK and around the world, human trafficking education presents a critical opportunity to address human rights and safeguarding to a generation of new doctors. Medical students, as future clinicians, have a crucial need for education that allows them to perform a critical role in intervening, identifying, assessing and referring trafficked individuals. The safety and quality of care delivered to trafficked persons requires clinicians to have a good knowledge both of trafficking, including clinical indicators, and appropriate responses both within the clinic and to the relevant referral bodies.School children also need to be educated in human trafficking/slavery to equip them and protect them from this terrible crime that happens in every country and city.Together with Serve the City, I am setting up a task force of medics, teachers and volunteers to go into schools, medical schools, hospitals and businesses to raise awareness and make policies on what to do if  someone is suspected of being a victim of this terrible crime. This will teach and equip, helping in awareness, safeguarding and prevention. I'm writing a training programme, together with doctors and with the help and support of different anti-trafficking organisations and political leaders from different countries. We are using a variety of different material that has already been written and turning it into training modules to take to schools, hospitals and businesses. I want to raise money to set this task force up and be able to send trainers out. The task force is being set up in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany and the USA and hopefully more countries in the future.

Voor Nederlandse mensen wie ook wil donatie maken kan het in deze NL bank en het werd overgemaakt naar de GB Task force account.Alvast bedankt x Jane
