    Story

I'm raising money and awareness about dementia. My dad Bernard had this cruel disease. I was heartbroken when he died two years ago. Now my husband John has been diagnosed with early signs, a crushing blow. I want to respond in a positive way. As a marathon runner, I've clocked up 1,300 charity race miles, and done self-organised walks of 630 and 460 miles. Being a carer I can't commit to long distance or days away from home, so my "Any Mile is Better" challenge, is 10 half marathons, spread across four weeks. It fits around my life and doing something feels better than doing nothing. The causes I'm supporting are dementia research charity BRACE, a registered charity for which gift aid could be added or claimed. You can donate directly to BRACE at www.alzheimers-brace.org. The second cause is Exeter Dementia Action Alliance, a mainly voluntary run organisation working to make a difference for people living with dementia and their families. Donations made on this Justgiving crowdfunding page will go to EDAA's core funds to enable it to move towards charitable status.

Thanks to Helen, Jane, Denise and Sue for donations to Exeter Dementia Action Alliance, one of the charities I'm supporting on my Any Mile is Better Challenge, from Bristol to Exeter. Over a quarter of the way there on the fundraising, and over halfway on the miles. Looking forward to chatting to Gina Awad founder of the Alliance on Exeter based Phonic FM at 2pm today.

I'm a 52-year-old former journalist. I've undertaken many fundraising challenges including walks of 630 and 460 miles, and more than 50 marathons. I'm now fundraising for dementia. I lost my dad to this cruel disease and my husband John has been diagnosed with early signs.
