I've raised £1500 to volunteer to work in Borneo for 4 weeks, providing much needed community support!

I have been given the fantastic opportunity of travelling to Borneo for a 4-week working expedition, alongside Camps International. This will be during the Summer of 2020 after I have finished my GCSEs! This trip will give me the chance to live and work as part of a community, helping local people to improve their living standards in a sustainable way and supporting efforts to safeguard the future of some of the world's rarest wildlife.
A group of us will stay in the small community of Mantanani which remains one of the poorest in the region. We will be developing community amenities, such as the ongoing maintenance and expansion of the Kindergarten in Bongkud Village. "School" is currently run from a small church building, however the population of the children in the village is growing fast and the accommodation is overcrowded. I'll be digging classroom foundations, plastering, painting & decorating, making furniture and landscaping. The aim is to provide a stimulating and safe environment where these children can learn and play.
Another important part of my journey is habitat conservation. This beautiful part of the world is an incredible home for a large majority of Borneo's wildlife including orang-utans, elephants & proboscis monkeys, and is one of the world's most important natural habitats. However, it is also one of the most threatened. I will be getting involved in activities to help safeguard this wildlife paradise for future generations by helping to tackle deforestation. This will include seed collection and tree planting and even a canoe trip along the Kinabatangan River monitoring wildlife!
If you are kind enough to donate to my page, your money will go towards the cost of my travel and accommodation whilst in Borneo. Please help me make a difference!
Thank you.
