Story

Hi everybody.

Along with twenty other pupils from Walthamstow School for Girls, I’ve been chosen to go on an incredible volunteering trip to Zanzibar in the summer of 2020.

I need to raise £2000, which is a huge amount of money but this will enable me to be part of a team who will make a real and lasting difference to the pupils at the Kinuni School in Stone Island.

Zanzibar is a small island located on the Swahili coast, with a population of 1.3 million, and many of the government-run schools are severely underfunded, and overcrowded.

The life prospects of the children attending this school have been severely limited based solely on their geographical location. I want to help and try to change this.

At the Kinuni School it is not unusual for classes to contain upwards of 100 children with just two teachers. Some schools have two sittings, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, literally cutting access to education in half.

As a volunteer I will be supporting the school by teaching lessons and improving the school's facilities through renovation.

Between now and April I'll be undertaking a wide range of fundraising activities, the first of which will be the London Fields Aquathlon, where I'll be competing against hundreds of other athletes in an endurance swimming and running race

.

If you feel like you can spare anything towards this worthy cause – no donation is too small – please dig as deep as you can.

Many thanks for your time.
