LifeboatLifeboatLifeboatAppledore RNLI enters ‘In Deep Ship’ in Bideford Soap Box Derby.

On Sunday 18 June the volunteer crew of Appledore RNLI will take part in the carnage of the Bideford Soap Box Derby https://bidefordsoapboxderby.co.uk/. See our team ‘In Deep Ship’ career down the course in our own home made lifeboat!! The start line is outside the market in Grenville Street, almost immediately we drive over the See-Saw and round the almost hair-pin bend into the steep downhill High Street, over the ‘bone shaker’ ramp, then the ‘shaker’ and ‘stepped’ ramp before taking the 90 degree turn at the bottom towards the finishing ramp; over 250 metres of jaw clenching excitement – certainly jaw clenching for the team!. Racing starts at 12.00 pm and goes on until 4.00 pm with an hours break for lunch, during which time you can enjoy the entertainment from Jumping Jacks Comedy Stunt Show on the Soapbox track and some great local food.

For anyone who has not been, it is a sight to behold.

Established to raise money for the ChemoHero Charity at Barnstable Hospital, each entry can also raise money through Just-Giving for its own charity and we would love you to donate to Appledore RNLI. Any donation will be held in reserved funds to go towards the operational running costs of the three Appledore Lifeboats and the lifeboat station, and the lifeboat kit and training for the crew.
