As Christmas approaches, Applegate Properties will be providing 'Living Well' with an annual Christmas parcel, full of essential items for those on the streets of Huddersfield. The volunteers at Living Well often put themselves in vulnerable situations to provide a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, offer advice or even help provide direction to relevant agencies that may be able to help make all the difference. They even take women to casualty after beatings and sit with them through treatment.

Living Well is an initiative run by Elm Pentecostal Church which aims to provide support to women and girls on the streets of Huddersfield. The group of volunteers work tirelessly to help those who need assistance – most of which are being sexually exploited through human trafficking. Living Well also support the town and those who have found themselves homeless and Applegate Properties believe that everyone deserves a safe place to live.

Most of the women helped by Living Well have been subjected to childhood abuse and as a result have become addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Others have been mislead to believe their loving boyfriend will provide a supportive home and employment in the UK so they can support their families in Eastern Europe. Offering an escape route – via access to the police and other agencies or charities – is not always an option.

Many people will be spending Christmas Day with family in a room that will no doubt end up being too hot from the open fire and will need to open the front door to cool down! Between us, we’ll be spoilt with food, drink and gifts.
