Story

At Batheaston Church school we are really keen to establish a love of reading at an early age. In our Early Years setting, we have been gradually increasing our scheme books, at a cost of £4.25 per book. The Big Cat Collins books are completely decodable, enabling our early readers to read books which reflect their phonic abilities. In order to ensure that we have a range across the colour banding we need more books.

In light of the Lockdown, we have been unable to carry out our usual methods of fund raising so have come up with an exciting fund raiser that will include the children and their families. We would like you sponsor your child to read as many pages they can, with the end of goal of 1000 pages across the whole class. This ’Sponsored Read’ compliments nicely our topic this term ‘Traditional Tales’ and is a great opportunity for the children to learn about money and gain a greater respect for books. The more money we raise the more books we can purchase. Our end goal is to eventually have an extensive library of scheme books which will support all the children in Apple class with their reading and phonics skills.
