Story
Applewood is a respite care centre for local families with disabled children aged between seven and seventeen. Currently, with six beds, the centre provides day-care and overnight breaks for 42 families and can accommodate children with a variety of conditions including Autism, Down Syndrome and Epilepsy.
We are a group of work colleagues from a different (unrelated) team in Surrey County Council and as part of a volunteering project we would like to improve the outside environment available to the residents - turning this view from the bedrooms into a sensory "avenue" by using raised beds either sided of the path. We are fundraising for low maintenance raised beds, automated watering, soil a sand pit and sand and extra plants to be installed in the summer of 2019.
We would also love to hear from anyone who could offer us any of the listed materials instead of money.
All funds raised will be spent directly on items for the garden, if we raise more than required we will use as much as is needed to make this garden special for the residents and donate the remainder to another similar appeal in Surrey. If we do not reach our target we will use whatever funds we raise to deliver the best garden that we can.
