I've raised £1000 to build classrooms in William Village, Malawi

In July 2019, I will be journeying to the south of Malawi to the remote William Village, as part of a team from Renfrewshire who will build a 3-classroom block. Due to the increasing roll at Renfrew Kanyeteza Primary, more classrooms are needed to ensure that all pupils can complete their primary education in the same school. At present it only caters for P1–P5 so would significantly benefit from the additional classrooms.
A child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to survive past age 5. Yet in Malawi, there is a deficit of over 70,000 classrooms. This is where we come in...
If you know me at all, you will know I am not exactly at one with the outdoors/nature/sun/bugs/dirt/heavy lifting and general manual labour… so, I would be deeply grateful if you would please sponsor me. I’m really going out of my comfort zone on this one.
The Malawian government has, with immediate effect, banned the use of fire cured bricks in all construction projects. This was the main building material used in classroom construction across the country, so it will have a drastic effect on the ability to deliver the project. What was going to cost £25,000 will now likely be closer to £45,000 using the next best alternative material.
Each volunteer needs to raise at least £3,000 to be able to fund the build, so let’s start here with £1,000. Ambitious I know… but again if you know me you know I don’t shy away from a challenge. So please please please dig deep and give what you can to this amazing cause. I will be doing a number of events to raise the remaining £2,000 so keep your eyes peeled for Bake Sales, Race Nights and who knows what else I will do!
Thank You, April
