Story
To help raise funds I am planning to cycle, with 2 friends, the distance between my home town and Borneo. We have calculated that the distance there and back is 14,400 miles.
My plan is to spend 4 weeks in Borneo during the summer of 2019 living with the local communities and helping out on a number of different projects. I will be part of team that will be helping to build a school for local children, enabling them to get an education.

I also aim to spend some time supporting a local project cleaning up the beaches and coves around the Island. Plastic bags are having a detrimental effect on marine life, our aim will be to clean up the marine habitat by removing plastic bags and other man made items. So far the project has removed 15 tonnes of plastic waste from the sea around Borneo.

Borneo has also seen large areas of rainforest cut down to enable the production of Palm Oil, this has a huge impact upon the local wildlife who depend upon the rainforest for their survival.

One species that is particularly vulnerable is the Orangutan, so I will be spending time helping to replant trees, the project aims to replant 1 million trees to provide rainforest habitat for endangered wildlife.

Aside from covering the costs of the trip any additional funds raised will be put towards the projects we will be working with.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page. I hope you will be able to help by donating the price of a cup of coffee or a pint of beer and in doing so know that you can make a real difference.
Thank you Alexander

6 years agoMany Thanks to West Winch Primary School for your support with a recent school fundraiser - Wacky Hair day. All the students came to school with wigs, colour sprayed hair and crazy costumes to help support my fundraising bid for Borneo. A huge £167 was raised. Thank you to all the students and staff at my old primary school.

Hi, my name is Alexander Palmer-Silcock and I have an opportunity to spend time working on a number of projects in Borneo during the summer of 2019. As well as learning useful life skills, I can also give something back to a number of really good causes.
