I'm raising money to build water pumps as a means of Sadqa Jaariyah for my grandad who departed from this Dunya a few years ago.

He was a remarkable person and charismatic in every sense of the word. He was a true inspiration to me and was the one who taught me about islam, the correct way to pray, what to read and all the little things in between. In his later stages he developed dementia and was unable to recongnise those closest to him. One thing he never forgot was Allah(swt) and still managed to read Quran and read namaz even with dementia at the age of 92.

The reason for hand pumps is because;

Sa’d ibn Ubadah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water to drink” and he was the most generous in giving charity.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no day on which the people get up but two angels come down and one of them says, ‘O Allaah, give in compensation to the one who spends (in charity),’ and the other says, ‘O Allaah, destroy the one who withholds.’”  

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1374; Muslim, 1010. 

Direct action hand pumps ( £150) have a pumping rod that is moved up and down, directly by the user, discharging water. Direct action handpumps are easy to install and maintain and will provide poor families with clean drinking water directly in their own houses.
