I've raised £26000 to Build Europe's biggest ecologically friendly aquaponic farm, to then produce locally grown 'better than organic' food from around the world.

Story

Aquaponics is a new, innovative farming method which does away with the need for harmful pesticides, chemicals, and machinery, in favour of creating an eco-friendly self-contained ecosystem. This ecosystem, or 'Biome', is made possible by combining two existing farming methods; fish farming, known as Aqua-culture, and growing plants in a soil-free environment, known as Hydroponics. Both have drawbacks on their own, yet both support the other by providing what each lacks - simply put, the fish poop and ammonia is produced which can harm them. The plant grow beds are home to bacteria which love ammonia and produce nitrates. Plants use nitrates to grow, and so filter the water clean! Ours is a closed system model, so the water has zero contact with the surrounding soil, meaning that existing brownfield sites and wasteland made unfit for agriculture by years of industrialised farming methods can be reinvigorated by introducing both honey bee aviaries and British meadow flowers to the area surrounding the farm (part of our eco-friendly model) which supports our native pollinating insects and other wildlife.
